The Defense Production Act (DPA), U.S. federal legislation, was enacted on September 8, 1950, and grants to the president various temporary powers to intervene in the national economy to ensure or expedite the production of goods, services, and resources which he or she deems necessary to promote the country’s “national defense.”

  • The DPA is regularly reauthorized, see the 2009 version of the DPA [PDF opens in new window]
